After graduating with a BA in Physics in 1998, and an MS in Physics in 2000, my wife and I moved to Germany for two years. I worked at Perma-Tec GmbH as an applications engineer, and acted as a technical liaison between the German headquarters and their US subsidiary (www.perma.de). In 2003, I started with Raith USA as a Field Service Engineer based on Long Island, servicing million dollar electron beam lithography systems across North America (www.raith.com). I was traveling about 40% of the time to Universities and Government Research Labs across the country. I even installed the Raith150 system at the University of Cincinnati, which several Miami students have used for their thesis work! In 2005, I became Service Manager, and now lead a team of five engineers. On a daily basis, my team is troubleshooting problems in charged particle optics (electrons/ions), electronics down to component level, lasers, pneumatics, ultra-high vacuum systems, and PC hardware/software.
My Masters Thesis research with Dr. Jan Yarrison-Rice peaked my interest in the field of photonics and nanotechnology. I have been able to witness first hand some of the major breakthroughs and next generation devices coming from universities across the country. It's an exciting time to be involved with nanotechnology.
