Keith Ramsey

Keith RamseyI graduated with a BS in Engineering Physics in 1984 and went on to get an MS in Electrical Engineering at Ohio State University in 1987.

During graduate school, I became a cleanroom process intern at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, OH.  After graduating from Ohio State, I accepted a full time position with Battelle, and I have been at Battelle continuously since then.  Battelle is the world’s largest private non-profit research company.  I am currently a Senior Research Scientist in Battelle’s Electronics, Sensors, and Information Systems Product Line.

Since 1986 I have worked in Battelle’s Class 100 cleanroom lab fabricating photolithographically-patterned metallic mesh thin film coatings for visible and infrared windows and domes.  The metallic mesh coatings are applied directly to the optical windows to provide electromagnetic shielding or heating to de-fog the windows.  The majority of our work is for US Dept of Defense aerospace and missile applications.  We have recently developed a capability to fabricate micron-sized mesh features on super-large (greater than 4 foot) and complex curved optical transparencies.

My group manager is Jane O’Loughlin, a Miami Physics colleague of mine who graduated with an MS in Physics in 1985.

I’m married with no children.  My main activities are competitive tennis, international travel, bicycling, hiking, and skiing.

“My 4 years at Miami were terrific.  All of my Miami Physics professors were exceptional teachers.  I can’t imagine a better place to go to college.”
