My scholarly work includes development of curriculum materials for middle school science and investigation of issues related to the success of females in science at both middle school and college levels.  Recently my interests have turned to assessing student learning in university classes with particular emphasis on critical thinking.

“Greater Cincinnati Consortium of Colleges and Universities’ Celebration of Teaching Award,” 2001.

“Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology”, presented by Twelfth International Conference on College Teaching and Learning, 2001.


Fellow, American Physical Society, 1999, “For designing educational materials used effectively by K-12 science teachers, and particularly for developing and publicizing the physics of toys.”

Distinguished Service Citation from the American Association of Physics Teachers, Jan. 7, 1997.  This award is presented to 4-6 physics teachers annually for their "exceptional contributions to the teaching of physics."
