The breadth of Dr. Yarrison-Rice’s research efforts in the area of nanoscience spans the range from photonic bandgap devices, to semiconductor quantum dots and nanowires, to single molecule electronics. She uses her expertise in electron beam lithography and optical characterization to study nanoscale materials and structures in order to illuminate their underlying physics. Her research productivity is reflected in recent publications in such high impact journals as Applied Physics Letters, Physical Review, Optics Express and Nano Letters.
Yarrison-Rice is the founder of and faculty advisor to the WISDEM (Women in Science Disciplines, Engineering, and Mathematics) program – a theme living learning community which supports and mentors women throughout their baccalaureate study.
Her teaching efforts have included courses in physics and society, modern physics laboratory, optics and laser physics, nanotechnology, and most recently a first year seminar course on Ethics and Science. Currently, she is collaborating with several Physics faculty to integrate explicitly the development of critical thinking skills into physics courses for both non-science majors and physics majors.
