Our graduate students usually receive some type of financial support while undertaking their graduate studies. The teaching assistantship includes a stipend and waivers of the instructional fee and out-of-state tuition (if applicable). Assistantships require half-time duties assisting faculty in instruction, grading, etc. Because high quality teaching is important to the department, all new teaching assistants participate in a workshop designed to improve their effectiveness as laboratory instructors. The workshop is usually held just prior to the start of classes in the fall semester.
The graduate research assistantship includes a stipend and waivers of the instructional fee and out-of-state tuition (if applicable). The research assistantships require half-time duties assisting faculty in research and performing research for the master's thesis.
The graduate summer scholarship (available to teaching or research assistants) is a maximum of $1,800 plus remission of tuition and the instructional fee for summer terms. This award involves no teaching or research duties but requires that the student be enrolled for at least six semester hours during each summer term for which the scholarship support is received. This award is open to all students in good academic standing who have had graduate awards in the regular academic year.
In addition to the graduate summer scholarship, support may be available for individuals to assist faculty in teaching during the summer.
